Field Hockey Kicks Off Season With Shutout

The Hawk's field hockey team had the longest preseason out of any varsity sport at the school, running for a total of 30 days, from August 1st-August 31st.  The extra training certainly payed off, resulting in a season opening 2-0 win against Laurel.  Junior captain Annie Arts and senior Becca Liccata both scored one goal, while Kathleen Graham and senior captain Colleen Shikowski contributed with assists.  In her first varsity start, goalie Sarah Speroff had 7 saves, shutting out the opposing team.

The Hawks play on Saturday, 9/3 at home against Columbus Academy.  Start times are scheduled for 4:30 and 6pm.

Girls Golf Places 1st in Tri-Match

Earlier today, the Hawken Girls Golf Team took on two competitors; Orange and Laurel Schools.  Consistent with the season thus far, the Hawks came up on top, beating the Lions by 10 strokes, and Laurel by 4.  Sophomore Meredith Cohen had the top score of the match with 43, while senior captain Allie Schwertner delivered a 44. 

The golf team next has a tri-match at their home course, on 9/6, against Padua and Beaumont.
